Introduction to NFIP Direct Servicing Agent

In 1968, Congress created the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) to provide flood insurance protection to property owners, in return for local government commitment to sound floodplain management and related flood disaster mitigation efforts.

An NFIP flood insurance policy can be obtained directly from the federal government or through an insurance company. Since 1983, insurance companies have been allowed to deliver and service NFIP policies in their own names, through what is called the Write Your Own (WYO) Program. Your agent may obtain a flood insurance policy for you from one of these insurance companies or, if your agent chooses, directly with the federal government through the NFIP Direct Servicing Agent. The policy coverages and premiums are the same, no matter where it was purchased.

If you are interested in learning more about the National Flood Insurance Program, or want to know how you can obtain a flood insurance policy directly from the federal government, continue navigating this web site of the NFIP Direct Servicing Agent.

  Welcome Homeowners

Welcome to, your information center for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). As a homeowner you should be aware that flooding can result in financial hardship if the proper insurance is not in place. As a rule Homeowners policies don't cover flood damage, leaving you to cope with the straining costs.

You don't need to be caught by rising water or rising repair costs. The NFIP was set up by the federal government to offer inexpensive flood insurance. Over 19,000 communities around the U.S. have registered with FEMA entitling its members to purchase flood insurance through NFIP authorized insurance agencies.
